Ajnala (Punjab), Jan. 10 (ANI): In a blood-curdling incident, a pack of street dogs killed a three-year-old boy in Punjab's Ajnala town.
Angad Veer, only child of his parents, was on his way back home on Friday evening after playing with his friends in his neighborhood when a pack of stray dogs attacked him.
Hearing the child's scream, residents rushed to the spot to rescue him, but ferocious dogs, which were in big numbers, attacked them too.
By the time more people came in with sticks and managed to rescue the boy, he was badly wounded. There were bite marks and scratches all over his body.
The boy was rushed to an Ajnala hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds.
While the parents of the boy were left heartbroken, the furious villagers alleged that the authorities failed to keep the growing population of stray dogs under check despite rising cases of dog menace. (ANI)

President’s award-winning teacher mauled to death by dog in UP. 12.01.2016
BAREILLY: In a shocking incident, a 67-year-old President's award-winning teacher died after a street dog attacked him at a village in Majhgava block on Monday evening.
The incident comes on the heels of increasing attacks by stray dogs in parts of Bareilly in which six kids have died in the past one year.
The retired teacher, Ramdas Diwakar, was returning from the market when he was attacked by a street dog. By the time family members and locals reached the spot and chased the dog away, Diwakar sustained severe injuries and fell on the ground.
"We immediately took him to a private hospital in Bareilly, but doctor declared him brought dead," Dharmendra Arya, son of the deceased, told TOI on Tuesday. Arya said, "After completing the last rites, we will register a complaint with police and other officials concerned."
On Tuesday, scores of people reached the house of the deceased to pay their respect. Diwakar had received the President's award in 2008 for his contribution in the field of teaching. He had also contested the assembly elections from Aonla in 2012.
Aonla sub-divisional magistrate Manish Singh Nahar said, "I am not aware of the incident. We will take appropriate action once we receive information about the incident."
Though this is the first incident of man being killed by a stray in Aonla, Bareilly district has been reeling under a menace of street dogs. On January 1, a pack of stray dogs was seen dragging the body of a stillborn child at the dump yard of the district women's hospital. Eyewitness said the pack of dogs roams around the hospital premises and is often seen on the corridors of the female ward.
In Baheri tehsil, six children have died while 30 more were attacked in the past one year. The district administration said the stray dogs have become feral in the region after scavenging on residue like flesh, blood and bones that are mostly discarded by slaughter houses.
A senior scientist of Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), who wished not to be named, said, "Dog menace in the region can be controlled if the district authorities carry out mass sterilization campaign to reduce stray dog population."
